What is a Begleri?
What is a Begleri? A Begleri is a skill toy, and is the original fidget spinner, which is made from a piece of sting or chain, with either knots or a weight tied onto the end. Although simple in design, they can be personalised, however you like with; coloured beads, ornaments and coloured string or a small chain.
The Begleri originated in Greece and serves the purpose of keeping the hands busy, In times of worry or in a more modern sense, can be used to create new habits or alter old ones, for example; a time when the hands could be kept busy is when you’re feeling anxious and don’t know what to do with your hands, or when you are partaking in a bad habit like smoking or vaping.
How to make your own DIY Begleri!
What you will need –
A piece of string or small chain. I used a new shoelace for my Begleri as I had one in my drawer lol
Some form of small heavy objects, beads, bearings and nuts are ideal because they have a hole in the middle of them
Scissors or snips if you are making one out of chain
Matches/Lighter
Method-
Firstly, Thread the shoelace through the beads or your chosen weights.
Then, create a gap between the weights, roughly from the top your finger to the bottom of your hand.
Once, you have a gap between the weight repeatedly thread the end of the string or shoelace through the weight until you can no longer fit any more of the string through.
Finally. cut the ends off the string and burn the remaining end so it doesn’t fray.
